An international film festival favorite, GIRLHOOD follows an insecure French teen as she struggles to find her inner strength and identity. Fed up with her abusive family situation and lack of school prospects, Marieme starts a new life after meeting a group of free-spirited girls. She changes her name, drops out of school, and starts stealing to be accepted into the gang. When home becomes unbearable, she seeks solace in an older man who promises her money and protection. Realizing this lifestyle will never result in the freedom and independence she desires, Marieme finally decides to take matters into her own hands.
